Hypodermic needles have become one of the most sought after popular instruments over the years. But some in the field find it more challenging and painful compared to other needles. Invention

Hypodermic needle is invented by Charles Gabriel Pravaz and Alexander Wood invented the hypodermic needle. Since the invention they are used all over the world commonly in the field of medicine.

Size

They are available in various sizes. The sizes are very important as specific sizes are used for administering vaccinations, insulin, drugs and other substances. They are also used for extracting fluids from tissues. Several factors such as tissue, injection preparation and patient populace are noticed to define the correct needle gauge and length. To withdraw blood from our body 21 and 22 gauge sizes are chosen. Less than 1 ml fluid injection is required by vaccines which make 22 to 25 gauge needles with 16-38 mm ideal for using. These needles are less painful. Insulins require smaller needles and so 6 to 13 mm needle is used.

Using smaller needles are cost effective. Even less that 30 gauge needles are produced by some companies.

There are many benefits too. There is less vain damage when a smaller needle is used, thus diminishing the pain caused by bigger needles. Always keep in mind that high gauge numbers are available in smaller diameter needles. They come in three different types of bevel – standard bevel, short bevel, true short bevel and also in various diameters.
