They are used to administer medicine in muscles, veins, skin etc. they are also used to give medicines in feeding tubes as well as orally without the help of needles. They are a nightmare right from childhood days but life saving in many cases. If a person is using syringes at home on a daily basis, he must know how to use them. All the syringes are not same. Each one is used for a specific purpose.
Types Of Syringe :
They are available in different varieties and are mostly disposable. They are available with or without needles attached. According to the medication volume, syringes are selected. They are available in cubic centimetres as well as millimetres. If large volume of medication is administered, it needs larger type syringes. One of the common types of syringe is U-100. It is used for administering insulin and is a single use syringe.
Syringe Tips :
Luer lock tip is the most commonly used syringe type. The needle is attached to the syringe by a twisting motion. Locking and releasing mechanism is easy and it ensures greater safety. Another one is slip tip in which the needle is inserted without twisting. This is used in medical tubing such as feeding tubes, catheters etc. eccentric tips are used to inject medication parallel to the skin and also inject into the vein present near the skin surface. Catheter syringe tips allow the tubing to slip on the tips. They are used for irrigation.
